Brief Report of The Industry Visit to ICD Talegaon

Dr. Ashutosh Zunjur Assistant Professor, School of Ports and Terminal Management, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, approached Pune Customs office by writing an email to Commissioner of Customs seeking an opportunity of industry visit to one of the ICDs in Pune. Commissioner sir approved the request and gave opportunity to visit ICD Talegaon.

The visit was scheduled on 12th April 2023. Students and Faculty member reached the ICD premise on the scheduled time. Mr. Ashish Gupta Manager KSH Distripark welcomed all of us there and gave some basic safety instructions to students.

He then took us to Storage yard, where he showed students different types of containers. Students learned dimensions of containers. Mr. Ashish Gupta explained the entire import and export process. He explained the role of KSH in EXIM.

Students also got to see Reefer containers. They learned how reefer containers are being used for maintaining desired temperature for perishable cargo.

Mr. Ashish Gupta also took students to bonded warehouses. He explained the difference between general warehouse and bonded warehouse. He explained each process that KSH conducts in the bonded warehouse for one of their clients-IKEA. (Taking pictures in warehouse was not allowed) Students raised their doubts and all were satisfactorily answered by Mr. Ashish.

Students were, then take to Customs office, where Mr. Dhananjay Kadam (Dy. Commissioner), Mr. Purohit (Superintendent) explained students about the main role of customs office in EXIM. Students go the opportunity to see samples of Bill of Lading, Commercial Invoices, SMTP etc. The officers answered queries and doubts raised by students. It was enlightening session for students.

Faculty and Students Thanked entire team of Customs office and KSH Distriparks. Students were asked to give feedback about their learning. (Feedback enclosed in the File) Overall it was very enlightening and knowledge gaining activity for students.
