Symbiosis Open Education Society Marks 16th Foundation Day: Empowering Education for a Bright Future

The 16th Foundation Day of Symbiosis Open Education Society was celebrated with great success in the education industry on May 9, 2023. The event took place at the Auditorium of Symbiosis Skills & Professional University campus in Kiwale, Pune. This special occasion also marked the 7th anniversary of Maharashtra’s first skill-based university. The chief guest at the event was Mr. Shekhar Singh, Commissioner of Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, while Dr. S. B. Mujumdar, Founder & President of Symbiosis, presided over the function.

The event was attended by notable personalities such as Dr. Swati Mujumdar, Principal Director of Symbiosis Open Education Society, Sanjivani Mujumdar, Managing Trustee of Symbiosis Open Education Society, and Dr. Gauri Shiurkar, Vice Chancellor (I/C) of Symbiosis Skills and Professional University.

During the event, the distinguished guests inaugurated the Indore Stabile Prototype Model and showcased sculptures created by students and faculty from the School of Architecture & Urban Development Planning, inspired by the concept of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbak’ of the G20. Additionally, the occasion served as an opportunity to honor the long-serving employees of SOES who have made significant contributions. The employees from the SOES family added to the celebration by presenting a variety of artistic performances.

In his welcome speech, Dr. S. B. Mujumdar emphasized the importance of skill education in addressing unemployment, highlighting its role in preparing students for industrial job profiles through collaborations between industries and academia.

Dr. Swati Mujumdar, Principal Director of Symbiosis Open Education Society and Pro-Chancellor of SSPU, spoke about the unique learning experiment adopted by SSPU, which follows a 70% practical and 30% theoretical learning pedagogy. She emphasized the university’s commitment to employing new teaching techniques and providing a competent curriculum to its students. Furthermore, SSPU revealed plans to establish a new incubator center, providing a platform for students to showcase new ideas and concepts.

Mr. Shekhar Singh, Commissioner of Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, praised SSPU as a modern educational experiment and commended the “Umed Jagar” initiative implemented by Symbiosis Skills and Professional University and the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, stating that it has received a positive response. He expressed interest in supporting similar activities in the future.
