Introduction to the SSPU UNEVOC Centre

Symbiosis Skills and Professional University (SSPU) has been granted a UNESCO-UNEVOC Centre, marking a significant institutional milestone. SSPU is the only Skill Development University in India and amongst very few in the country, to be granted this prestigious recognition.

With this recognition, we have become part of the global UNEVOC Network, which currently comprises 253 UNEVOC Centres across 152 countries, facilitating international collaboration, knowledge exchange, research and capacity building in TVET. The SSPU’s UNEVOC Centre will contribute to advancing skills development through research, policy dialogue, international partnerships and capacity-building initiatives focused on upskilling and reskilling.
The UNESCO-UNEVOC International Centre for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), headquartered in Bonn, Germany, serves as UNESCO’s specialized arm for skills and vocational education. Through its UNEVOC Centres Network, UNEVOC supports Member States in strengthening and modernizing their TVET systems to enhance employability, inclusion, lifelong learning and sustainable development, with a particular focus on youth, women and disadvantaged group.

Mission

The SSPU UNEVOC Centre aims to strengthen capacity building in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) through competency-based, industry-aligned, and future-oriented education. The Centre promotes digitalisation in TVET, sustainable and green skills, entrepreneurship, youth employability, equity and inclusion, and TVET teacher training while fostering collaboration with industry and community stakeholders.

Three-Year Strategic Roadmap (2026–2029)

Year 1 (2026–2027): Foundation and Institutional Strengthening

The first year will focus on establishing the institutional foundation of the SSPU UNEVOC Centre, strengthening partnerships, launching flagship programmes, and building faculty capacity. Key measurable outcomes will include:

Establishment of the SSPU UNEVOC Centre operational framework with 5 thematic focus areas/working groups.
Organization of 1 flagship international conference and 2-4 national/international webinars, workshops, or capacity-building programmes on AI, TVET, future skills, sustainability, and employability.
Development of 4–5 national and international collaborations/MoUs with universities, industries, UNEVOC Centres, and government agencies.
Training of 200+ faculty members, educators, and trainers through Faculty Development Programmes (FDPs) on AI-integrated pedagogy, future skills, and TVET innovation.
Active participation in 2–3 UNESCO-UNEVOC BILT collaborations, workshops, or knowledge-sharing initiatives.
Publication of at least 2 policy briefs, reports, or working papers related to TVET transformation, AI integration, and skills development.
Engagement of 500+ direct beneficiaries, including students, educators, and skill-development practitioners through Centre-led activities.

Year 2 (2027–2028): Expansion, Research, and Internationalization

The second year will focus on scaling institutional activities through funded projects, research outputs, policy engagement, and international partnerships.

Securing at least one externally funded research, consultancy, or development projects from national and international agencies.
Development of 2 international partnerships and collaborative projects for research, mobility, curriculum innovation, and joint programs.
Delivery of at least two specialized training/certification programs benefiting 500+ educators, students, and TVET practitioners.
Publication of one peer-reviewed research papers, policy reports, case studies, or technical reports in TVET, AI, sustainability, and employability domains.
Organization of two international symposiums, policy dialogues, or stakeholder consultations involving UNESCO-UNEVOC, policymakers, and industry experts.
Expansion of industry engagement through 10+ industry partnerships supporting internships, apprenticeships, and future-skills initiatives.

Year 3 (2028–2029): Regional Leadership and Global Recognition

The third year will focus on positioning SSPU UNEVOC Centre as a regional leader in TVET innovation and global collaboration.

Positioning SSPU UNEVOC Centre as a South Asian regional knowledge hub through 10+ cross-country collaborations and academic partnerships.
Securing at least 2 major international grants or large-scale funded initiatives in AI for TVET, sustainability, entrepreneurship, and workforce transformation.
Reaching 1,500+ direct beneficiaries through training programmes, conferences, research, policy engagement, and outreach initiatives.
Hosting one major international summit on AI, TVET, and Future Skills with participation from 15+ countries and global experts.
Contributing to regional and global TVET policy dialogues through UNESCO-UNEVOC, BILT, and international knowledge networks.
Establishing sustainable long-term partnerships with industry, academia, and multilateral agencies to ensure continued institutional growth and impact.

Expected Outcomes and Impact

The SSPU UNEVOC Centre is expected to:

The launch of an “AI for TVET and Future Skills Initiative” under the UNEVOC framework will strengthen capacity building, foster innovation, and enhance workforce readiness in emerging technologies, thereby equipping learners and educators with future-ready competencies aligned with evolving industry and societal needs.
Enhance employability and workforce readiness by equipping learners with industry-relevant skills in emerging sectors such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), automation, semiconductors, defence technologies, and Industry 4.0.
Promote inclusive and future-ready technical education by increasing women’s participation in technical sectors and integrating sustainable, green, and technology-driven skill development.
Support research, innovation, and curriculum modernization in TVET to align educational frameworks with evolving needs in AI, robotics, automation, semiconductors, and defence technologies.
