The School of Data Science and CS & IT aims to persistently aspire to achieve excellence in computing disciplines. It is being followed in the computation of contemporary expectations across its range of academic programs. The main goal is to create future computer graduates, design and implement systems that include the convergence of software and hardware devices, employ creative approaches to programming and problem solving, create large-scale software systems, and build data/computing infrastructure for an organization.
The technology is new and the techniques of committing crimes are also new. It is no brainer that new approaches, practices, technology, and tools are also required to tackle such crimes from identification, prevention, and curation. The course design is intended to create skills within the students so that they can manage such circumstances efficiently and help the industry save billions of dollars.
Data Science is quite a popular field that has practical application in various domains including Academia, Business Sectors, R&D, and many more sectors which enables us to make effective decisions in day-to-day activities. B.Sc in Data Science course aims to provide an opportunity for all students to master the skill sets specific to Data Science with a research bent. The curriculum supports the students to obtain adequate knowledge in the theoretical aspects with hands-on experience in relevant domains and tools. Our students gain exposure to research models and industry-standard applications in Data Science through Guest Lectures, Seminars, Projects, Internships, GDs, and Industry activities.

In the information age, which we all are part of, data is the source of power. Google, Amazon, and the likes are able to control the governments and states because of the data that they possess. However, this data is useless unless we can draw meaningful insights and use it for business and predictive analytics. Data Science which is an interdisciplinary field that uses multiple scientific methods, processes, algorithms, and systems in order to extract valuable information, knowledge, etc., has become the pathway to employment and research opportunities across the World.
In the past decade, data scientists have been able to achieve the position of being the most sought-after job assets and are currently holding major portfolios in various organizations. What is your program's duration?

B.Sc. (Data Science) – 3 Year Program. However, after each year there is an internship module of 8 credits. The detail of internship is as under

2 months after second semester (During First year)

2 months after Fourth semester (During Second year)

6 months after fifth semester (During third year)

M.Sc. (Data Science – 2-year program

What courses can I use to meet the program's prerequisites?

It could be better if you come with a basic background of below mentioned subjects/Domains.

Computer Programming:

  • Problem solving, analysis and design of small-scale computational systems, and implementation using a procedural programming language.
  • Python is the language most utilized in our program, however students are able to apply with backgrounds in other languages.

Statistics:

  • Parameter estimation, introduction to the collection of data, elements of probabilistic modelling, basic probability computation techniques, discrete and continuous random variables and distributions, expectation and variance, central limit theorem, single-parameter confidence interval estimation, and exposure to any statistical software package.

Calculus or Linear Algebra:

  • Calculus: single variable calculus, limits, derivatives and integrals of algebraic exponential, logarithmic and trigonometric functions play a central role, applications of differentiation, and fundamental theorem of calculus.

Linear Algebra: systems of linear equations, matrix algebra, linear transformations, and determinants.

Does M.Sc. (Data Science) have thesis component.

Yes, In the final year (4th semester) a thesis must be submitted along with one research paper published in web of science/Scopus indexed journal/conference.
